Interesting Facts:

·        Jamaica is the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean.

·        Jamaica is the birthplace of Reggae music, dating back to the 1940’s

·        The Jamaican flag is the only national flag without red, white or blue on it.

One of the highlights of my travels is meeting people from different cultures.  The Jamaican people have the perfect attitude toward life.  Their laidback vibe makes visitors feel right and home and ready for an impromptu party. The brief stop today at Falmouth, the first port on the Grand World Voyage, didn’t disappoint.  I spent the day at Bamboo Beach Resort.   With Reggae music playing in the background, the smell of jerk chicken on the grill and my toes buried deep in the sand, I was so relaxed.  The water was crystal clear, and the beach was covered with colorful shells.  I lived the Jamaican life today.

The highlight of my day today occurred this morning on the ship.  A crew member stopped me in the corridor to tell me I look like James Harden, his favorite basketball player.  While I totally don’t look like James Harden, I took it as a compliment.  It’s a beard thing.

Back in 1995, I also visited Jamaica on a cruise.  During the port call of Ocho Rios, I travelled with a group of friends to Dunns River Falls.  I didn’t know quite what to expect; the thought of hiking a waterfall seemed extreme.  It turned out to be quite an enjoyable experience.  The terraced waterfall is approximately 180 feet high.  A knee abrasion resulted from the slippery rocks, but that didn’t stop me.  The hike was serene.  The water cascading down the lush green mountain was refreshing and exhilarating.  The falls empty into the crystal blue Caribbean Sea bound by a white sand beach.  For a unique travel experience, I highly recommend a trip to Dunns River Falls when vacationing in Jamaica.
